Automation Test Engineer Opportunity in Amsterdam

We are looking for an Automation Test Engineer with expertise in Java, Cucumber, Gatling, APIs, and CI/CD for our client in Amsterdam.

Your Role

Your squad is responsible for the maintenance and operations of a part of the payment engine. Each engineer has their own specialty, and yours is testing. You will ensure the application is of high quality in all aspects: functional, performance, resilience, and security. Most of our tests will be automatically executed, so test automation will be a key part of your job. As the entire team is responsible for maintenance and operations, be prepared to participate in standby rotations as well.

The Team

In addition to your squad, you will also join a chapter consisting of test engineers from different squads. Within this chapter, you'll focus on quality and continuous improvement for yourselves, your colleagues, our products, and processes. This includes:

• Improving test frameworks
• Bringing in new tools
• Enhancing the CI/CD setup
• Implementing new test frameworks

Roles and Responsibilities

We are primarily looking for a test automation engineer, but your tasks will be diverse. Here are some examples:

• Perform test automation with Java, Cucumber, Gatling, etc.
• Engage in refinement and planning with your squad, other squads in the end-to-end chain, and the product owner to ensure features are integrated into the total solution.
• Utilize your understanding of capacity and performance management to ensure our application performs at top class.
• Set up continuous delivery pipelines and effectively use them in your squad.
• Automate and execute functional tests using Cucumber and Karate.
• Assist the squad in implementing countermeasures to maintain the confidentiality and integrity of data and system availability.
• Leverage key ITIL processes and understand how they support the quality of your application.

How to Succeed

As you will be working in an Agile international environment, we expect you to have experience with Agile and/or DevOps. Additionally, it's mandatory to possess good oral and written skills in English.

You are a proactive team player, always looking for improvement. You also teach, coach, and train your colleagues to help them improve as well.

We Expect That:

• You have at least 5 years of experience in testing backend systems and a minimum of 5 years with Cucumber (Java implementation).
• You possess good knowledge of APIs and Message Queues (ActiveMQ, JMS, EMS, Kafka, etc).
• You have created test automation frameworks from scratch for systems with sufficient complexity (not just for demo/training purposes).
• Your testing experience is at least 7 years, during which you have executed various types of testing (functional, performance, resilience, security).
• You focus on delivering quality over quantity.
• You have hands-on experience with CI/CD.
• You are comfortable with collaboration and open communication.

It Would Be Nice If:

• You have worked in the banking industry before and are familiar with the terms ISO20022, Swift, and SEPA.
• You are familiar with tools like GitLab, TFS, AzureDevOps, Gatling, Kibana, and Prometheus.
• You have hands-on experience testing applications built with one or more of the following technologies: Cassandra (CQL), Java (Akka, Spring), JMS (EMS/MQ), Kafka, Tibco Business Works, and Unix.
