Cloud Platform Engineer

For the Royal Schiphol Group, we are looking for a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer:

About Royal Schiphol Group

Royal Schiphol Group brings the world within reach. We connect the Netherlands with the rest of the world, creating value for the economy and society. Achieving this involves over 2,000 employees working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our ambition is to develop Schiphol into Europe’s best hub airport, both for passengers and for airlines. Data is key to achieving this ambition, enabling business intelligence, advanced analytics, and smart technologies such as AI (artificial intelligence) that have become crucial for the safety and efficiency of our daily operations. We also use data and AI to improve the quality of service for the 71.1 million passengers traveling through our airports every year. Having actionable data and meaningful insights is critical for any business. Our Schiphol strategic ambition is clear: we want to use data to improve the quality of our services, network, and lives.

Our Data, AI & Analytics Department

At the Royal Schiphol Group, we have established a Data, AI & Analytics department (DnA), tasked with accelerating our group-wide transition to a truly data-driven organization. This department oversees the strategic use of AI, data, and applied data science across the Royal Schiphol Group to identify growth opportunities and areas for innovation with new data products and services. Responsibilities also include data governance & quality frameworks, our BI function, and the close connection with the rest of IT to create a future-proof data infrastructure. The DnA department includes our central data teams responsible for our data foundation as well as providing scalable data, AI, and BI capabilities to the whole group, as well as data teams that sit embedded in the different parts of Schiphol.

Your Role as a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer

You will work on the infrastructure of DnA, our cloud-native data platform based on Azure and Databricks. Your job will be to leverage your strong technical skills in cloud computing, platform management, automation, and scripting using Terraform (among others). You will play a pivotal role in designing and maintaining our cloud infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security. You will collaborate closely with data engineers and other developers, implementing CI/CD pipelines, automating processes, troubleshooting issues, and providing support where needed.

By embodying our company values of transparency, collaboration, and accountability, you will be at the forefront of optimizing our tech stack. Next to being a great team player, you are eager to learn, bring an open mindset, and have excellent communication skills. Passion for your work is key. Ultimately, your role will be what you make of it.

You will work closely with the various central data teams to develop products and services that bring our Schiphol Data and AI strategy to life.

Your Added Value

As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you have a clear vision on technology, the courage to speak up whenever necessary, and the focus to guide the team and our organization towards further developing our Data Platform Infrastructure. Innovation and an agile way of working are second nature to you. You strive to improve every day so that you can help the team be the best it can be. You actively work on creating a positive team atmosphere, essential for a successful, respectful, and welcoming workplace. Your natural approachability enables you to connect with people.

You are passionate about your work, curious, and open to new developments, with a mindset focused on possibilities and opportunities. You possess the ability to take ownership of key topics and guide your teammates in the right direction. Connecting with key stakeholders and gathering their requirements to create and implement relevant user stories is part of your skill set. If you also have the following qualifications, we look forward to receiving your application!
