Data Steward Opportunity at Schiphol
We are looking for a Data Steward to join the Security, Safety and Environment business domain at Schiphol. The various business domains at Schiphol are taking exciting steps with your help to become even more data-driven and to put data at the heart of every key decision.
You will manage data as a strategic asset for use cases that have a direct impact on the airport and its passengers. When you look out of the office window, you can see your work in action.

- Enforce data policies for the data products in scope, including tasks like identifying critical data elements, monitoring data quality, and analyzing deviations to find the root cause.
- Negotiate and implement Data Delivery Agreements for data sources.
- Ensure data privacy and implement data protection policies.
- Manage metadata and its relationships in the Enterprise Data Catalog and Business Vocabulary.
- Roll out data literacy training and education for data owners within your scope.
- Develop practical tools and processes to execute existing data policies.

About the Team
With the help of data, we can organize our daily processes in a smarter, more efficient, and effective manner. This journey is not without challenges: the quality and availability of data are critical for success, data issues must be resolved smoothly, and privacy and ethics must always be guaranteed.
As a Data Steward, you are a subject matter expert in one of the Schiphol business domains. You will take responsibility for metadata curation, data quality requirements, data issue analysis and resolution, and improving data quality within that business domain, working closely with both the business and the data domain consultant to whom you will report. You will support data owners and data consumers with your expertise, while contributing to the maturity of data management and governance within Schiphol, in line with our data strategy and goals.
Alongside the Data & Analytics department, you will work for the Security, Safety & Environment business domain. Your work will contribute to creating a safe, secure, and healthy environment for passengers, employees, and partners by adhering to regulations, implementing preventive measures, and managing crises effectively. Moreover, your work will play a crucial role in controlling all people and goods on our premises, managing security operations 24/7 in a dynamic environment. The Safety and Security departments rely on our data products to make informed decisions daily, and your work ensures that these insights can be trusted.

You've Got This
In this role, you should have strong analytical insight, communication skills, and be well-organized. Other than that, you have:
- Higher professional (HBO) or university (WO) education level, preferably in data science, business administration, or data/information management.
- 1–3 years of experience in a similar role (e.g., data steward, data analyst).
- Fluent in Dutch and English.
- Knowledge of data management principles (such as DAMA-DMBOK) and data management tools (e.g., Collibra).
- Experience in developing and delivering training sessions.
- Must possess a ‘Verklaring Geen Bezwaar’ (VGB-Burgerluchtvaart) at the start of the assignment.
- Knowledge of Azure and Databricks is a plus.

Working conditions: This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
