Vattenfall is seriously upping its game with agentic AI, aiming to make customer and employee experiences way faster, smarter, and more consistent. Besides our chat- and voicebot Nina, a bunch of other agents are already helping out customers and colleagues – and the need for more is just growing!
We're looking for an AI Engineer to join the GenAI Accelerator. This is a hands-on role where you'll turn business needs into functioning agents. You'll be the bridge between business and IT – close enough to the tech to build it yourself, and close enough to the business to make sure it actually delivers value. You'll build agents, craft and manage prompts, work with skills and tool calls, and keep your finger on the pulse of how the field is evolving.
What you’ll do
You'll build agents that tackle real-world problems and make sure they actually stick. Your work will primarily connect three key elements: the value to be created, the process it fits into, and the agent that delivers it. You'll grasp how these interact and build accordingly.
Part of your time will be spent on forward deployment. Beyond the large-scale process automation the team focuses on, you'll embed yourself temporarily within a project or business team to build agents tailored to their specific users and needs. This means getting up close to the problem, shipping useful solutions quickly, and proving value where it's truly felt.
Concretely, you will:
- Build the agent. Develop and optimize AI agents that handle tasks autonomously, support business processes, and make knowledge more accessible. You'll own prompt flows, RAG implementations, and conversation design.
- Connect value to implementation. Translate business or user needs into the right agent design, and embed it into the process so it genuinely changes how work gets done – no more just demos that never see the light of day.
- Prototype fast. Create low-fidelity prototypes to gather real-world feedback early on, then iterate towards robust and scalable solutions.
- Embed where needed. Jump into specific teams as a forward-deployed engineer, build solutions for their unique context, and leave them better equipped for the future.
- Keep it reliable. Ensure accuracy, privacy, security, and quality so agents are dependable and responsible for enterprise-scale operation.
- Stay ahead. Keep track of emerging AI techniques, agent ecosystems, and integration standards (think RAG, MCP, and what's next), and judge them based on their practical value.
Who you work with
You'll join a small, highly skilled team – a Product Manager and several AI-focused full-stack engineers. You'll also collaborate closely with the Conversational AI team, product owners, and operations. This is a self-directed role where you'll have real influence over how Vattenfall leverages AI, with ample opportunity to take initiative and experiment.

- Hands-on agent building. Proven experience building with LLMs, prompt engineering, RAG, and tool/skill-based agents – you've shipped solutions, not just played around with experiments.
- Product instinct. You quickly grasp business problems and translate them into smart, scalable solutions that fit the process and the user.
- A maker’s mentality. You enjoy whipping up rough prototypes to learn fast and are comfortable embedding directly into teams to get things done.
- Curiosity with judgment. You explore new AI developments and integration standards, assessing them for real-world value rather than just hype.
- Enterprise awareness. You understand what's required to run AI responsibly within a large organization – considering privacy, security, and the quality of data and knowledge.

Working conditions: This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
