You'll be joining the Sanctions Tech Innovation team, which is part of the Area Global Sanctions within the Financial Economic Crime Tech department. Our team is all about building, improving, and maintaining data-driven solutions to help with sanctions controls across the bank.
We're a team of data scientists who really focus on developing new AI models and making existing solutions even better, all with a strong foundation in data engineering. We work hand-in-hand with sanctions experts, risk owners, and investigators, turning ideas into production-ready solutions – from understanding the needs to development and deployment.
This specific role is all about DevOps and data engineering within our Sanctions Tech Innovation team. Having experience with sanctions, financial economic crime, and regulatory environments would be a big plus, as would a genuine interest in this field. If you don't have direct sanctions experience yet, we're looking for someone who's really motivated to learn and dive into the domain, because understanding the context is super important for building effective and responsible data solutions.
Your Role
As a DevOps Engineer, you'll be responsible for designing, building, and deploying production-grade data & AI solutions. You'll be working on data ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and deployment, making sure everything is secure, compliant, and ready for the future.
Beyond just delivering, we're looking for someone who:
- Proactively spots issues with data quality, performance, or architecture and sees them through to resolution.
- Takes the initiative to suggest and implement structural improvements that benefit the whole team.
- Actively collaborates with colleagues from different areas and helps foster a sense of shared ownership for our solutions.
- Communicates clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Shares knowledge and contributes to constantly improving how we work.
What You Will Do
As a DevOps Engineer on the Sanctions Tech Innovation team, your main focus will be on the technical engineering side of the AI models and data solutions we develop. While data scientists lead the model logic and analytical design, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring these solutions are built, deployed, and run in a robust, scalable, and compliant manner.
You'll collaborate closely with data scientists and IT engineers from the IT side of FEC Tech, offering input on technical feasibility and design. You'll also take ownership of the data engineering and platform components that allow these solutions to safely make their way into production.
Right now, the team's main priorities include:
- Optimizing the automated closure of false Level 1 detection alerts
Our real-time detection relies heavily on text matching, which can sometimes result in irrelevant alerts due to coincidental similarities or near-matching names. The lowest quality alerts, which aren't eligible for manual review, are called Level 1. Building on initiatives from recent years, we'll be exploring further methods to identify and close these false-positive alerts. - Supporting alert investigators for Level 2 detection alerts with AI-generated insights
We're currently developing a generative AI model to assist alert investigators with more complex alerts (Level 2). Based on the available alert attributes and public information, this model will suggest the most likely alert decision. - Building structural controls to identify Rabobank clients who have circumvented sanctions restrictions
The effectiveness of foreign sanctions policies is significantly challenged by intentional or unintentional evasion (e.g., transaction rerouting, obfuscation of involved parties). This requires a new approach to monitoring (groups of) transactions and clients to detect indicators of such behavior. Following successful proof-of-concept work in 2025, we expect to gradually introduce a new activity monitoring model starting in 2026 and beyond. - Supporting the migration of the platform for Trade Finance sanctions controls
The last real-time detection still on the legacy NetReveal platform is Pre-Trade Screening. As we migrate to a new platform, we'll assess the extent to which the current screening approach can be replicated. We anticipate that some fundamental changes will be necessary to establish a future-proof set of sanctions controls for Trade Finance documentation.
Activiteiten: As a DevOps Engineer in the Sanctions Tech Innovation team, your focus is on the technical engineering aspects of (AI) models and data solutions developed within the team. While data scientists are primarily responsible for model logic and analytical design, you play a key role in ensuring these solutions can be built, deployed and run in a robust, scalable and compliant way. You work closely with data scientists and IT engineers of the IT side of FEC Tech, providing input on technical feasibility and design, and taking ownership of the data engineering and platform components that enable solutions to move safely into production.
