We're on the lookout for a talented Data Engineer to join our GreenWave Team at Schiphol!

• Our GreenWave Team is all about creating a super smooth and predictable passenger flow, aiming to eliminate waiting times.
• We're a team of 3,000 dedicated colleagues, all working towards making the world's most sustainable and high-quality airports.

Connecting your world:

As a Data Engineer with GreenWave, you'll be the backbone of our passenger timeslot services, handling both the data and the software platform. You'll be building and maintaining backend applications, APIs, and data-heavy services that are crucial for operational decisions at Schiphol. Working hand-in-hand with product owners, data scientists, and engineers from other teams, your mission will be to turn business needs into robust, production-ready solutions. We'd love for you to bring your skills to:

• Design, develop, and maintain Python backend services and REST APIs for both internal and external users.
• Build dependable integrations and data pipelines to support GreenWave products and operational processes.
• Deploy, monitor, and manage applications in production environments using Azure and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Ensure our platform is always reliable by handling monitoring, troubleshooting, resolving incidents, and continuously improving things.
• Team up with data scientists to bring their models and data products into production.
• Contribute to our software engineering standards, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality practices.

Team GreenWave focuses on balancing demand and capacity using smart digital products, data, APIs, and operational services that directly improve passenger flow and airport performance.

The team gathers at Schiphol every Tuesday – it's our dedicated office day!

Functie Eisen

You've got this:

Schiphol connects your world. With the best people, we make travel safe and responsible. You'll contribute your engineering mindset, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to build reliable systems in complex environments. For this role, we're looking for:

• Solid experience in Python backend and REST API development.
• Experience with OpenShift and/or Kubernetes.
• Strong PostgreSQL and SQL skills.
• Experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure Database for PostgreSQL.
• Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications in production.
• Experience with production monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
• Experience delivering data-intensive platforms and/or APIs that are consumed externally.
• Familiarity with CI/CD and Git-based development workflows.
• Excellent communication skills in both English and Dutch. (English is our primary development language, but Dutch is super helpful for collaborating with Schiphol stakeholders!)

Bonus points if you have:

• Databricks experience.
• Experience with asynchronous processing technologies like Celery, RabbitMQ, or Redis.
• Experience with highly available or operationally critical systems.

Working conditions: This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
