As a Data Scientist, you'll play a crucial role in supporting and optimizing Rabobank's Transaction Monitoring capabilities. Through advanced analytics, dashboard development, and collaboration with stakeholders, you'll empower colleagues to make data-driven decisions that improve the detection of potential money laundering and terrorist financing activities.

By utilizing data from millions of customer transactions, you'll identify patterns, uncover areas for improvement, and provide insights that help operational teams focus on genuine risks and high-value investigations. Your work will directly contribute to a safer financial system while making Transaction Monitoring processes more efficient and effective.

What You Will Do

  • Conduct end-to-end analytical projects, from understanding business needs and gathering requirements to coding, analyzing, visualizing, and presenting results.
  • Design, build, and maintain impactful Power BI dashboards to support Transaction Monitoring optimization and decision-making.
  • Develop scalable and maintainable analytical solutions using Python.
  • Estimate and assess the impact of proposed changes to Transaction Monitoring rules and parameters.
  • Translate complex business questions into analytical approaches and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Serve as a trusted partner for stakeholders, assisting them in formulating the right questions and uncovering opportunities through data.
  • Drive continuous improvements and proactively identify areas where analytics can deliver measurable business value.
  • Collaborate closely with data professionals, business experts, and other stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.

Examples of Assignments

  • Develop a Transaction Monitoring rule tuning dashboard to help optimize monitoring parameters.
  • Build management dashboards that offer deeper insights into the effectiveness of the Transaction Monitoring system.
  • Analyze customer transaction behavior to identify patterns and answer critical business questions.
  • Quantify the expected impact of model and rule adjustments on operational efficiency and detection effectiveness.

You'll join a highly skilled and motivated multidisciplinary team within FEC Tech, comprising over 80 professionals dedicated to developing Transaction Monitoring solutions that help detect money laundering and terrorist financing risks. Additional Information:

  • All departments operate on a hybrid basis, in line with Rabobank's @anywhere policy.
  • Please note: Due to parking congestion at the Rabobank location Croeselaan in Utrecht, a new parking policy will be implemented from April 2026. External staff will not be able to park at Croeselaan from Monday to Thursday; parking will only be permitted on Fridays.
  • Important: Midlance constructions are not permitted according to Rabobank policy and will be investigated during the screening process.

Functie Eisen

We're looking for someone with a Master's degree in a quantitative or technical field and at least 3 years of hands-on experience as a Data Scientist, Data Analyst, or in a similar analytical role. You should be a whiz with Power BI, especially when it comes to creating advanced dashboards, visualizing data, and telling compelling stories with it.

We'd love for you to have solid Python programming skills, including a good grasp of:

  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP)
  • Software engineering best practices
  • Coding standards and conducting code reviews
  • Writing code that's both maintainable and scalable

It's also really important that you can take the lead on initiatives independently and deliver great results. You should be fantastic at communicating, able to translate business needs into smart analytical solutions, and have a structured, proactive, and highly organized way of working. Strong stakeholder management and collaboration skills are key, as is a business-focused mindset with a real sense of ownership. And of course, excellent verbal and written English communication skills are a must.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience in Financial Economic Crime (FEC), AML, Transaction Monitoring, Risk, or Compliance environments.
  • The ability to balance deep technical knowledge with a focus on business impact.
  • Feeling comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Being motivated by making a tangible difference, not just building cool analytics for their own sake.
