For Rabobank Utrecht, we're on the hunt for a talented Data Scientist/Data Engineer!

You and your role

As a Data Scientist/Data Engineer, you're the wizard behind scalable data processing, slick data transformations, and production-ready code. You'll be crafting the transaction monitoring data model and weaving together huge amounts of data from all corners of Rabobank. You've got the technical chops, but you also know how to chat clearly, coordinating with data producers, developers, and other stakeholders in a friendly team of about 180 colleagues.

What will you do as a Data Scientist?

• You'll develop and maintain the transaction monitoring data model, making sure global data sources are used effectively.
• You'll write and optimize production-ready code to handle large data flows at scale.
• You'll help build a monorepository and bring new regions onto the data model.
• You'll be liaising with data producers from different parts of Rabobank to ensure data sources and quality are top-notch.
• You'll collaborate with developers who are creating transaction monitoring logic and need solid data to do their magic.

Imagine starting your day with a quick team stand-up, hashing out progress, and then diving into your tasks. In the afternoon, you might plan the next sprint with the team, or maybe jump into a brainstorming session for a new feature before getting back to coding and optimizing.

Over your first year, you’ll get to know the team, how we roll, and the data model inside out. The goal? To become a go-to person, alongside your squad, for the data model and to ensure its technical integrity.

Skills, tools, and areas of expertise we're looking for:

• Data transformations using Python/PySpark.
• Experience with Databricks.
• Familiarity with Airflow.
• A good understanding of transaction monitoring and scalable data processing.

You’ll be joining a supportive team of 9 Data Scientists, 1 Scrum Master, and 1 Product Owner. This crew is responsible for the data model that serves Rabobank’s international clients. You'll also be working closely with data producers across Rabobank and developers who are building the transaction monitoring logic.

Does this role match my experience level?
This position is perfect for you if you have at least 4 years of relevant work experience, particularly as a Data Scientist or Data Engineer, and have hands-on experience with PySpark.

What will I be doing day-to-day as a Data Scientist?
You'll be developing the transaction monitoring data model, writing production-ready code, and optimizing large data flows. Plus, you'll be coordinating with your team, data producers, and developers.

What skills, tools, and technologies will I be using?
You'll be working with PySpark, Python, Databricks, and Airflow. Having experience with Microsoft Azure and medallion architecture would be a big plus!

Can I work in a hybrid setup?
Absolutely! You'll be in the office 2 days a week, with the flexibility to work from home on the other days. Our fixed office days are Mondays and Thursdays. The team is currently based at Winthontlaan but will be moving back to Croeselaan in February.

Which team will I join, and who will I be working with?
You’ll be part of a team comprising 9 Data Scientists, 1 Scrum Master, and 1 Product Owner. You'll also collaborate with data producers from across Rabobank and developers focused on transaction monitoring logic.

Assignment Details:

• Duration: November 2, 2026 - September 1, 2027, with an option for extension.
• Location: Utrecht.
• We are looking for 1 Full-Time Equivalent (FTE).

• Around 4 years of solid, relevant work experience under your belt.
• You've spent time as either a Data Scientist or a Data Engineer.
• You're comfortable and experienced with PySpark.
• You can communicate like a pro in English.
• Your communication skills are top-notch, helping you connect with others.
• You're naturally proactive and like to take initiative.
• You hold a Master's degree in a field like Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Information Studies, or something similarly STEM-focused.
• You've got a knack for problem-solving and enjoy collaborating with others.
• You're able to take a thoughtful look back at your own work and growth.

And if you happen to have these, that would be a fantastic bonus:

• Some experience navigating the world of IT.
• Familiarity with Databricks.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure.
