We're looking for a Test Engineer for Integrated Planning & Forecasting at Schiphol!

The future of travel is taking shape right now, and we're using data and technology to lead the way and make our airport operate smarter. With new digital solutions, we can better predict processes at Schiphol, ensuring smooth and efficient passenger flows. We're also using Deep Learning on aircraft stand images to give handlers and airlines optimal insights, all contributing to an excellent digital customer experience for passengers and airlines alike.

Business Platform Schiphol Operations

Within the Business Platform Schiphol Operations (BPSO), our goal is to maintain operational processes that are predictable, controllable, and efficient. We're dedicated to optimizing our airport operations daily through technology and data. This involves working on integrated planning & forecasting, building a digital twin of our airport, Turnaround Insights, Total Airport Management, and data analytics. We also ensure that existing operational applications are maintained and continuously improved. We achieve this through close collaboration with suppliers, our own development teams, and other departments like Data & Analytics, Operations, and various IT platform teams.

One of our key services involves supporting and developing the Integrated Planning & Forecasting (IP&F) platform. This platform hosts several critical business applications that help the organization prepare for and manage daily operations, focusing on passenger flow forecasting and asset planning. The processes we support cover the terminal, airside, baggage, and landgate-stand aspects, including planes, buses, and check-in/baggage reclaim. Our end-users operate across all time horizons: strategic (years ahead), tactical (up to a month ahead), and operational (today's operations, and past days for analysis). Development is handled by external partners working alongside an internal team of business analysts, architects, information analysts, test engineers, DevOps engineers, product owners, and application management specialists.

Ready to join our team?

What you'll be doing as a Test Engineer:

As a Test Engineer, you'll be instrumental in shaping the airport of the future by thoroughly testing our applications. You'll work closely with the QA Lead and testers from other teams and clusters. Day-to-day, you'll have regular discussions with business analysts, information analysts, and the domain solution architect, and collaborate closely with your teammates to test and manage new product releases.

Within the IP&F team, you'll ensure the entire testing process runs seamlessly. You'll have a solid grasp of the application functionalities and the underlying business processes, equipped with the skills to test them comprehensively. You'll provide clear feedback on test results to your team members and suppliers, thereby guaranteeing the quality and business value of our features.

A key objective will be to increase test coverage for both functional and non-functional testing. Experience with various types of non-functional testing is a definite plus. Furthermore, we encourage you to think about how testing processes can be optimized and to share your testing knowledge with your colleagues.

We're also planning to introduce test automation in the future, and you'll have the opportunity to play a significant role in that initiative.

A major goal for next year is to implement test automation for regression testing (we use Playwright at Schiphol), which is currently quite underdeveloped.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Prioritizing test conditions.
  • Writing test cases for our three applications: Gate-stand, Bus, and Baggage.
  • Setting up and maintaining test data.
  • Testing both functional and non-functional aspects of our applications.
  • Setting up tests for various levels, such as regression and integration tests, in close collaboration with other departments and teams at Schiphol.
  • Generating test reports and documenting test findings.
  • Supporting the issue and support processes for our applications.
  • Optimizing testing processes.
  • Setting up test automation for our three applications.
  • Executing tests for application releases, OS patching, and lifecycle management.
  • Creating automated tests that can be run via an Azure DevOps/GitHub pipeline.

This position is for 36 hours per week. We embrace a hybrid work model, allowing you to work where you're most productive – sometimes at home, sometimes in a collaborative workspace, and sometimes in the dedicated department area at the office to stay connected with colleagues and the Schiphol Group company. We really value interaction. Therefore, we aim for a good balance between remote work and being present at the office. Alongside a "work hard" mentality, our department also fosters an environment where we enjoy activities together, from social gatherings to outings.

Duration: ASAP - November 1, 2027, with the possibility of extension.

Location: Schiphol.

Freelancers: Yes, allowed.

Submissions open until: September 21, 2026, 9:00 AM.
