The Cyber Demand & Automation (CDA) Team

The Cyber Demand & Automation (CDA) team enables Shell’s Cyber Defence organizational goal of detecting in seconds and responding in minutes by making security data consumable by the teams that need it. We focus on automating security actions and processes to enhance efficiency. This position specifically centers on developing automation workflows and enabling new capabilities within the Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) platform.

Responsibilities

• Translate Automation Requests: Collaborate with various Cyber Defence teams to transform their automation requests into secure and reliable solutions that introduce new capabilities, save time, reduce costs, and ensure consistent process execution.
• Implement New Interfaces: Build new connections between the SOAR platform, security tools, and other information systems within our dynamic IT ecosystem.
• Integrate AI Services: Incorporate Artificial Intelligence (AI) functionalities into automations to unlock additional value and broaden capabilities.
• Act as an Automation Focal Point: Serve as the main contact for one or more Cyber Defence teams to understand their specific needs, keep them updated on automation delivery, and empower them to utilize DIY automation options.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT security or IT engineering.

• Experience using Azure Bicep for deploying Azure resources is required.

• Experience developing and managing Security Orchestration, Automation, Response (SOAR) platforms is required.

• Experience developing automation playbooks with Azure Logic Apps is required.

• Experience working with various Microsoft Azure cloud services including:

• Integration Services: API Management
• Compute Services: Azure Functions, Virtual Machines
• Storage Services: Data Lake Storage, Blob Storage, Azure Files
• Database Services: Cosmos DB, SQL Database, PostgreSQL
• Identity and Security: Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault

• Experience working with developer tools including GitHub, Azure DevOps, and Visual Studio Code.

• Experience with data query languages including Kusto Query Language (KQL), Splunk Search Processing Language (SPL), Structured Query Language (SQL).

• Coding experience in Python, PowerShell, and JavaScript.

• Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems administration and an understanding of networking concepts.

• Experience working in an IT Security organization, knowledgeable in Security Architecture and Engineering, Security Operations, and Vulnerability Management.

• Preferably has knowledge of using and integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) services such as Azure OpenAI or Azure AI Foundry.

• Preferably has security professional certification in SPLUNK, SSCP, CISSP, SANS, etc.

• Has good written and verbal communication skills and provides well-informed advice.

Working conditions: This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
