DevOps Test Engineer 5G Core

About KPN Mobile Networks:

Within the Technology and Digitization Office, the Mobile Access and Mobile Core units are responsible for innovating, developing, and managing KPN's mobile network. Our mobile network consists of over 5000 base stations in the Netherlands and connects more than 7 million customers every day. With around 200 enthusiastic colleagues, we ensure that KPN's mobile network is the #1 network in the Netherlands.

For our One Mobile Core (OMC) Program, we are looking for a full-time DevOps Test Engineer. The OMC program is introducing 5G SA network capabilities, which will bring higher speed, lower latency, better quality, and enhanced security to our KPN customers.

The focus of the engineer will be to write and execute test cases on the data core of the new 5G SA set-up. The work is done in a test team led by our test manager, in close collaboration with the vendor, Ericsson. Troubleshooting issues with vendor support is also part of the assignment, along with exploratory testing to determine optimal configurations.

What the Test Engineer will do:

• Write detailed test cases: The Test Object List is prepared and serves as the basis for detailed test cases that are properly documented.
• Execute test cases and report on them. Testing is conducted using shielded boxes (with devices, E2E), with Landslide, and with dedicated test-automation tooling.
• The Engineer will troubleshoot failed test cases and collaborate with the team and our vendor on a solution.
• In some cases, exploratory testing will be needed to optimize configuration parameters in the end-to-end set-up at KPN.
• Report on progress.

Location:

The Program is run from the KPN office in Rotterdam (Wilhelminaplein), typically in a hybrid model. Depending on the work split in the test team, the work can also be based in our Rotterdam Test location (Waalhaven).

Working from a different location or home is possible, with the days in the office or remote to be agreed upon. However, given the urgency of the project and the need for quick onboarding, the engineer is expected to be on-site often, especially in the beginning.

Who We Are Looking For:

We are looking for an experienced test engineer who can quickly adapt to the KPN environment and become productive. The engineer will work alongside a team of skilled and motivated individuals. The ideal candidate should possess the knowledge and experience outlined below.

Knowledge and Skills

• Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with Mobile Core technologies, particularly EPC and 5GC 3GPP architecture.
• Experience: Proven background as a Test Engineer, skilled in test approaches and processes, along with experience using test and tracing equipment.
• Quality Focus: A strong determination to identify and resolve any issues and errors in our new 5G Core.
• Hands-On Experience: Proficiency with Ericsson mobile core, specifically PCC and PCG.
• Stress Management: Ability to handle stress and meet deadlines effectively.
• Communication Skills: Capability to raise issues with the test manager and our vendor, and follow up efficiently.

Working Conditions

This job role offers a balanced split between operational (run) and project (build) work, with a distribution of 75% operational and 25% project-related tasks. To minimize the impact on business operations, some changes may be scheduled outside of regular business hours.
